Frequently Asked Questions About Envisage
About the Program
What is academic mentor-coaching and how is it different from supervision?
Academic mentor-coaching combines the subject-matter knowledge of an experienced academic with the forward-focused questioning techniques of an executive coach. Unlike academic supervision (which is task and output oriented), mentor-coaching focuses on your career direction, decision-making, and professional confidence. It is not supervision, counselling, or a coffee chat. It is a structured, purposeful process.
Who is Envisage for?
Envisage is designed for academics, researchers and other professionals who work in higher education at any career stage, from early career researchers navigating their first academic role to senior academics considering leadership transitions or the next stage of their career. It is available to academics across Australia and internationally.
Is Envisage available to international academics?
Yes. Envisage is available to academics outside Australia. Sessions are conducted online via MS Teams or similar platforms, making them accessible across locations and time zones.
About the Matching Process
How are participants matched with a mentor-coach?
After completing your Pre-Mentoring Participant Questionnaire, you are given access to the full Envisage mentor panel. You select up to three mentor-coaches whose profiles align with your goals and background. The Envisage team then confirms your allocation. Alternatively, you can ask the team to make the selection for you.
What happens if I am not happy with my mentor-coach match?
Contact the Envisage team and we will work with you to find a more suitable match. The goal is for every participant to feel comfortable and confident in their mentor-coaching relationship from the outset.
About Sessions & Timing
How many sessions are included?
Up to six one-on-one thirty minute sessions with your assigned mentor-coach, agreed between you both based on your goals. Sessions are typically held three to five weeks apart.
How long does the program take?
Most participants complete the program within three to five months, depending on the number of sessions and scheduling. The program is flexible and designed to fit around academic workloads.
About Cost & Registration
What does the registration fee cover?
Your fee covers the full Envisage program: your Pre-Mentoring Participant Questionnaire, mentor-coach matching, and between three and six one-on-one mentor-coaching sessions. All prices include GST.
Can my university pay on my behalf?
Yes. Contact the Envisage team before registering and we can arrange invoicing directly to your institution. Volume pricing is available for groups of five or more participants.
How do I know if Envisage is right for me?
If you are at a professional crossroads, facing a significant career decision, or simply want to think more clearly about the next phase of your academic life: Envisage is likely a strong fit. The program works best for academics who are ready to engage in structured, reflective conversations and commit to follow-through between sessions.
